History

Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club has a fine history stretching more than a century with many champions emanating from the ranks of members and others winning events at the club.

We are unique in the fact that we have produced 3 walker cup winning players, Jim Milligan, Gordon Sherry and most recently in superb unbeaten fashion Jack MacDonald. We are understandably proud, as this demonstrates the commitment we have as a club to nurture young talent to the highest levels of the great game of golf.

Our history has been well documented in two outstanding books that you can download on the tabs below.

"…more a way of life"

KILMARNOCK (BARASSIE) GOLF CLUB

1887-1987

 by Alan Stewart.

Past Captain, and Honorary Life Member, Alan Stewart’s detailed, informative and interesting history of the first 100 years that shaped the great club we have today. On reading, you readily catch the sense of the passion and feeling not only Alan has but all those dedicated golfers had for Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club. We would recommend all members read this book   …indeed any lover of the development and history of golf is sure to enjoy our story, so far.

The Jubilee Book

A truly great document for members old and new to grasp the history of the club, and one of the framed image sets is taken from this great wee book. Published in 1937 to celebrate the first fifty years with a Gold Foil cover by The Standard Press in Kilmarnock the photos were provided by Hector Macdonald

The understated nature of the introduction is wonderful and given what was to ensue in the following years it certainly represents more than just a snapshot in history.

"This Jubilee brochure, designed for private circulation among the members of Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club, has been prepared and is issued by authority of the committee, in the belief that members may appreciate a souvenir of an interesting occasion in the history of the club."
