Our “little birds” (GOT ref there) tell us the AGM went well – most notably the members authorising the already reached 500 members that puts the club in a strong position to continue to invest in the course – out at the sheds we say “Aye tae that”.
Challenges abound even in our local area with Glasgow Gailes (now called Gailes Links Btw) have just spent £250k on course improvements (mostly removing trees) and Dundonald has just been bought by Darwin Investments with multi million pound plans to develop a new club house, leisure centre and hundreds of holiday bed accommodations, so to keep up we’ll need to keep active and striving to constantly improve.
Some really nice weather this past wee while, broken predictably for the Medal on Saturday – ah well it was good while it lasted. It did allow us to get even more bunkers done and make really good progress on the new tee at the “Cock o’ the North”
All fairways sprayed with iron and moss killer and look out for loads of sand being thrown about with our new spreader, with the aim of getting our fairways back to full fitness after suffering heat stroke at the tail end of the summer.
We never got the gorse buster this year, mainly due to the fact that we had to shave some money off the winter budget due to the over spend we had to absorb for the aforementioned fairways .
On the fairways (which we always are) this winter’s protection (the nurse always recommends protection) plan worked really well so a big “Ta” to all the members for observing the policy.
We will be going back to the full course incorporating the new holes from the last week in March and back to the white tees for the first Medal in April. Gregor is getting stroke savers sorted and from them we will get all the Satellite data for all your fancy gizmos, contraptions, widgets and geometric devices that one absolutely needs to come up 10 yards short of the green, uploaded and ins-emanated into the ionosphere.
Half the team are off to Perth next week for the BIGGA annual conference to heckle (sorry give moral support) to our dear leader – GM Claire, as she gives a talk to the assembled masses about how Barassie is bucking the trend and expanding the membership, creating a dynamic that suggests a bright future for clubs like ours.
Excellent stuff – Go Girl Go.
Enjoy your golf
